The »melting pot« has been a metaphor for U.S. society ever since the first immigration waves. When Europeans came to Ellis Island in the late 19th century, they sought a life of political and religious freedom as well as better economic opportunities. But what was the reality of immigration to the U.S. like? How have immigration and its meaning for the United States changed over time?
This presentation will examine how the country’s diversity influences stereotypes, cultures and daily life and what effect the Trump presidency has had on immigration in the United States.
