Since the end of World War II more than 75 years ago, Germany has been host to the largest U.S. force presence in Europe. Though American troop numbers have fallen drastically since those days, about 34,000 U.S. service members are currently assigned across Germany. Stuttgart is home to U.S. European Command and U.S. Africa Command headquarters. But why? And what role does it play today? We want to learn more about the military forces in Germany and especially in Stuttgart.

In this special event, we will give you a short history of the U.S. military in Germany. Afterwards, our panelists from Headquarters U.S European Command will share insights about their work at EUCOM and life in Stuttgart, the relationship of soldiers to the host community and the relevance of their presence for Germany today.

You will also have the chance to ask questions. This event is for school classes and interested students.

In cooperation with EUCOM and the Landeszentrale für Politische Bildung BW.
