The play The Glass Menagerie by Tennessee Williams is set during the time of the Great Depression in 1937 in St Louis, Missouri.
The protagonist, Tom Wingfield, reflects on his past hardships including his sister Laura’s polio and his melodramatic mother. The fragile figurines of his sister’s glass menagerie are where he finds his solace.
