In October, we are going to discuss “The Distance Between Us“ by Reyna Grande.

This deeply moving memoir offers a different perspective on the immigrant experience. Award-winning novelist Grande delves into her childhood memories, giving readers an honest reflection at her life as a daughter whose parents immigrated to the U.S. illegally in the 1980s. Left behind with her siblings and grandmothers in Mexico, she manages to navigate life and overcome hardships.

“The Distance Between Us” is a powerful and timely read as it captures the reality of parents moving to the States to secure a better life for their children back in Mexico. It touches on the difficulties of family separation at the border, the question of belonging, and the willingness to forgive.
