In June, Let’s Read will discuss Laird Hunt’s novel „Zorrie“.

The author depicts the life of main character Zorrie Underwood, who is born in the early twentieth century during the Great Depression and lives an ordinary life in the American Midwest. This book covers various episodes of her life that have shaped Zorrie, such as living as an orphan after the death of her parents and working in a radium processing plant. Ultimately, the sometimes difficult circumstances help Zorrie become who she is now and find a place to call home. It is a story about friendships, longing, and resilience.

The book was a finalist for the 2021 National Book Award.
