What about Democracy?

Veranstaltungsreihe/Event Series

Freedom of speech and freedom of the press are cornerstones of a democracy whereas censorship is a common means of maintaining power in dictatorships and autocracies.

But what if censorship starts creeping into democratic societies? In recent years, there has been an increasing tendency to curtail these freedoms in democratic countries through legislation, for example by restricting curricula or banning books.
Who decides what is censored and what is not in a democracy? What are the motivations behind such decisions? And what can people, and especially young people, do to make their voices heard and take action against supposedly undemocratic censorship?

We will address these issues and questions in a two day event special.
