In Memoriam
We mourn the loss of Jim Palik. He worked as a photographer for the DAZ for over 15 years and was also an integral part of our groups Let’s Read, Writers in Stuttgart, and Art ConneXion.
With his camera, Jim Palik covered numerous events, capturing moments of German-American encounters, and documenting our work in an artistic way long term. After the anniversary celebration 75 Years of Transatlantic Ties – Speech of Hope, Amerikahaus & DAZ Stuttgart in 2021, he retired as the DAZ’s house photographer, but remained an active part of our community.
With Jim Palik, we lose a loyal companion and friend—his warm nature, his eye for detail, and his direction behind the lens will always remain in our memories.
A selection of his photographs is on permanent display at the DAZ and can be viewed during our opening hours.

Limited Access to Library on Nov. 7
On Friday afternoon, November 7, 2025, access to the library is limited. Starting 2 p.m., only the room with novels, YA literature, and DVDs is open. Thank you for understanding!

In Memoriam
We mourn the loss of Erika Alber. As co-founder and leader of the German-American Artist Group, an international group of artists from the greater Stuttgart area, she was closely connected to the DAZ.
Thanks to Erika’s tireless efforts, the group has exhibited regularly at the DAZ since its founding in 2001 and participated in the American Days cultural festival. Both professionally and personally, she had deep connections to the US and the American community in the region—she was a shining example of living German-American friendship. We will greatly miss her commitment and warm nature. With her passing, we have lost a wonderful friend and companion.
