Internships

Internships are a great way for university students to get involved with the DAZ, and gain valuable work experience. We’re looking for students who demonstrate a strong interest in the USA, for instance, by majoring in American Studies, or participating in study-aborad programs in the USA. Applicants should have excellent skills in spoken and written English and German, and should be proficient in Microsoft Office; other skills, such as Photoshop, are a plus.
Internships are usually 12 weeks long, unpaid and can be in part- or full-time. We accept applications on a rolling basis. You can find more information in our posting on the German version of our job site.

Please note: Students without citizenship of an EU country need to make sure that they fulfill the legal requirements for internships in Germany.

FSJ Kultur

FSJ Kultur is a one-year program for young adults between the ages of 18 and 26, and allows them to gain valuable work experience and insights into our cultural institute.

The program runs from September through August. If you’re interested in doing an FSJ Kultur year in 2023/24, you may apply up until the end of March 2023. The application process is facilitated by LKJ Baden-Württemberg. Please submit your application to that organization. You can find more information about the FSJ Kultur and the application process on the LKJ website.

Opportunities for Native Speakers from the USA

We also offer both paid and volunteer opportunities specifically for native speakers of English from the USA who would like to get involved with the DAZ.

English teachers (freelance basis):

For our language program, we exclusively work with American teachers. You should enjoy working with teenage and adult learners and be comfortable teaching digital, hybrid, and in person courses. Requirements are a qualification in ESL/EFL, teaching experience and a college degree.

Currently we are expanding our teaching pool so we’re looking forward to meeting new English teachers to work with. Please send a CV and cover letter to Desirée Nieß.

Please note that due to the mission of the DAZ, we can only consider applications from American native speakers who are from the United States.

Speakers (freelance basis):

With our America Explained presentation series, we provide middle school and high school students the opportunity to learn more about the USA first-hand from an American perspective, through interactive presentations.

Speakers should be flexible, and experienced interacting with a teenage audience. You should have a background in education, history, political or social sciences.

Please get in touch with Kathrin Büttner.

Conversation Days participants (volunteer):

On Conversation Days, we visit German high schools and give students the opportunity to engage in short one-on-one conversations with young Americans.

This is a great opportunity especially for university students who would like to volunteer and get involved with the German-American Center during their time in Germany. The program usually runs from November to June.

Please get in touch with Kathrin Buettner.
