INDIGEN: Das Nord Amerika Filmfestival is Europe’s only film festival dedicated exclusively to films by Indigenous peoples of North America. It offers a unique opportunity to discover Indigenous films and artists and to engage in dialogue with them. It promotes intercultural exchange, democratic values, and international cultural cooperation. At the same time, it helps deepen understanding of the diversity of Indigenous cultures and brings greater public attention to the voices of Indigenous filmmakers. The next edition of the festival will take place in Stuttgart from February 4 – 7, 2027.

This workshop is part of the festival and provides teachers and educators with a unique opportunity to engage directly with festival guests to gain first-hand insights into Indigenous perspectives from North America. Through personal conversations, participants will explore topics such as identity, cultural heritage, historical experiences, and contemporary social issues.

The workshop also focuses on the responsible and culturally sensitive teaching of Indigenous topics in the classroom. Participants will receive practical ideas, suggestions for teaching resources, and recommendations for incorporating authentic Indigenous voices and materials into their lessons, helping students develop a deeper and more nuanced understanding of Indigenous communities in North America.
