Bildungsarena: Let’s Talk About German-American Stereotypes

Politische Bildung muss nicht im Klassenzimmer stattfinden. Die Bildungsarena bringt Schulklassen in die MHPArena Ludwigsburg und verbindet einen besonderen Lernort mit einem interaktiven Workshop des Deutsch-Amerikanischen Zentrums Stuttgart. Anlässlich des 30jährigen Jubiläums der Städtepartnerschaft mit St. Charles in den USA bringt die Stadt Ludwigsburg Schulklassen in die MHPArena.

Im Mittelpunkt stehen die transatlantischen Beziehungen zwischen Deutschland und den USA. Gemeinsam gehen die Schüler*innen der Frage nach, welche Bilder, Vorurteile und Stereotype wir voneinander haben und wie diese entstehen. Dabei werden kulturelle Unterschiede, Gemeinsamkeiten und aktuelle gesellschaftliche Themen kritisch beleuchtet und mit einem/einer Amerikaner*in diskutiert.

Der Workshop beginnt mit einer ca. 30-minütigen Führung durch die MHPArena. Anschließend folgt ein rund 90-minütiger Workshop im Businessclub. Die Gesamtdauer beträgt etwa 120 Minuten. Workshopsprache ist Englisch.

INDIGEN: Das Nord Amerika Filmfestival
Discover Indigenous North America Through Film

INDIGEN: Das Nord Amerika Filmfestival is Europe’s only film festival dedicated exclusively to films by Indigenous peoples of North America. It offers a unique opportunity to discover Indigenous films and artists and to engage in dialogue with them. It promotes intercultural exchange, democratic values, and international cultural cooperation. At the same time, it helps deepen understanding of the diversity of Indigenous cultures and brings greater public attention to the voices of Indigenous filmmakers. The next edition of the festival will take place in Stuttgart from February 4 – 7, 2027.

The school program offers students the opportunity to watch selected films by Indigenous filmmakers and engage with topics such as identity, cultural heritage, social justice, environmental issues, and contemporary Indigenous life. Screenings are often accompanied by discussions with filmmakers, artists, scholars, or other festival guests, providing students with unique first-hand insights and opportunities for dialogue. The program offers an engaging and memorable learning experience that connects classroom topics with authentic voices and contemporary perspectives.

The DAZ has been a long-standing cooperation partner of the festival and will actively support the school program in 2027. The detailed program for school classes, including film selections and accompanying activities, will be announced soon and published on the festival website.

 

Meet U.S. Teens: A Visit to Panzerkaserne and Stuttgart High School

We are excited to offer a special program in cooperation with the U.S. Army Garrison (USAG) Stuttgart and Stuttgart High School: German school classes (grade 8 and above) will have the opportunity to visit the U.S. military base Panzerkaserne in Böblingen and experience American life in Stuttgart up close.

During their visit, students will explore the base with a guided tour offering a look behind the scenes of everyday life on a U.S. Army installation. The highlight of the day is a visit to Stuttgart High School, where students will meet American teenagers. From typical American features like hallway lockers to sports fields and the school’s cafeteria, students will gain authentic insights into a different school culture – and discover both surprising differences and unexpected similarities.

This program gives students the chance to engage directly with native speakers, practice their English in real conversations, and build cultural understanding through personal exchange. It offers a unique way to gain insights into American life here in Germany and is a valuable addition to any curriculum focused on language, culture, and transatlantic relations.

Please note:
Transportation to and from the Panzerkaserne must be organized and covered by the school (please note that public transport to the barracks is limited).

Application process:
Teachers can apply by the respective deadline with their class for an upcoming date. Only one school class can participate per date. The class will be selected at random from all applicants.
