The Stuttgart International Festival of Animated Film (ITFS) is one of the largest and most important festivals for artistic animated film worldwide. From May 5 to 10, the festival celebrates animation in all its forms with competitions, curated film programs, workshops, talks, and free open-air screenings. As part of the festival, the DAZ once again offers a special school program. If you register through the DAZ, you have the opportunity to participate with your class for free.

In this workshop, animators Andy and Carolyn London share insights into their creative process using clips from their films, with a special focus on one of the essential elements of cinematic storytelling: sound and music. Music is one of the most powerful storytelling tools in film and animation. The right song can instantly summon a memory, transport an audience to a specific time and place, and set a mood in moments. In this workshop, we’ll break down how we’ve used music and sound to shape emotion, sharpen story, and elevate our own films. Participants will also learn how music and sound design can be used in all kinds of creative projects.
