In the past, autocratization usually occurred quickly through coup attempts or foreign attacks. Today, according to the Bundeszentrale für Politische Bildung, it is often a gradual process where democratically elected decision-makers slowly weaken and dismantle democratic institutions from within.

Why is the separation of powers essential for democracy? What significance do fundamental rights like freedom of the press and freedom of expression hold in our daily lives? And what could happen if these rights were infringed? The process drama allows participants to experience and understand living under an autocratic system. The setting in which the participants act during the drama is intentionally unspecified, allowing for connections to historical, current, or potential future scenarios. Following the drama, participants will reflect on their experiences, including in the context of the upcoming U.S. elections.
