In May Let’s Read! will discuss The Leftover Woman by Jean Kwok.

In the novel, Jean Kwok explores identity, motherhood, abuse, and adoption, set against the backdrop of China’s controversial One Child Policy and the life of undocumented workers. The novel tells the stories of Jasmine Yang, a recent immigrant from China searching for her daughter, and Rebecca Whitney, a successful publishing executive. Despite their vastly different cultural, economic, and religious backgrounds, these women’s lives intersect in New York City.
