Director and animator Sean Pecknold takes us behind the scenes of his acclaimed stop-motion short Tennis, Oranges. He explains his technique behind stop motion and breaks down the creative journey from his first idea to the final short film. From unexpected challenges to unconventional solutions, Sean shares insights on believing in your ideas, embracing limitations, and getting started and finishing, no matter what.

This event will also include a screening of Sean Pecknold’s short film Tennis, Oranges. Students will have the opportunity to ask the director questions.

Sean Pecknold

Sean Pecknold is an award-winning film and music video director and writer. His body of work includes acclaimed films for Fleet Foxes, John Legend, Netflix, DreamWorks, Beach House, Dirty Projectors, Google, Sony, The New York Times, and the BBC. He runs Sing-Sing in Los Angeles with his partner, Adi Goodrich, creating visually rich, narrative-driven projects that blend independent film, music, and design. His work is known for its inventive storytelling and world-building, crafting tactile films that feel both epic in scale yet deeply human, with emotion and heart at their core.
