This teacher training will focus on the role of (American) pop songs and their lyrics in EFL education at the secondary level. Against the view of songs as central artifacts of current pop culture, it will offer insights into relevant research, discussing their role as mere „time fillers“ vs. opportunities for using them as a highly versatile teaching tool.
In addition to elevating language educators‘ background knowledge on the issue, the session will also dedicate time to practical aspects, outlining strategies for working with pop lyrics in the classroom.
