Schon wieder Wahlen in den USA?!? Zwei Jahre nach den Präsidentschaftswahlen geht es erneut an die Urnen:
Bei den sogenannten Zwischenwahlen am 3. November 2026 stehen alle Sitze für das Repräsentantenhaus sowie rund ein Drittel des Senats auf dem Wahlzettel. Außerdem finden weitere regionale und lokale Wahlen statt, zum Beispiel für Gouverneursämter und weitere Organe zahlreicher Bundesstaaten.
Traditionell werden die Wahlergebnisse auch als Zwischenzeugnis für die aktuelle Regierung gesehen und bieten Einblicke in die politische Stimmung des Landes zur Halbzeit der Präsidentschaft. Aktuell stehen die Republikaner*innen unter Druck, denn die Politik der letzten Monate, steigende Preise und neue Konflikte führen zu mehr Unzufriedenheit in der Bevölkerung. Werden die Demokraten das im Herbst als Chance für sich nutzen können?
Im Rahmen unserer Veranstaltungsreihe beschäftigen wir uns mit den Besonderheiten der Midterm Elections, ihrer Rolle im politischen System der USA und den Auswirkungen.
Another election in the U.S.?!? Just two years after the Presidential Election, voters are heading to the polls once again:
In the so-called Midterm Elections on November 3, 2026, all seats in the House of Representatives and about one-third of the Senate will be up for election. In addition, other regional and local elections will take place, such as for governorships and other state offices in numerous states.
Traditionally, the election results are also seen as a midterm report card for the current administration and offer insights into the political mood of the country halfway through the presidency. Currently, Republicans are under pressure, as the policies of recent months, rising prices, and new conflicts are leading to growing dissatisfaction among the population. Will the Democrats be able to capitalize on this as an opportunity for themselves this fall?
As part of our event series, we will explore the unique aspects of the midterm elections, their role in the U.S. political system, and their consequences.
